We’re a month into the new year, but it’s not too late for to join in on some of the top design trends for 2018. From colors to finishes to textures, you’ll be sure to find the perfect element to incorporate into your space.
1. Natural Elements
Society is becoming more eco-conscious, and design is beginning to reflect that as well. If you’re going au-natural, look for products made of sustainable or reclaimed materials like this line of furniture from Eco Friendly Digs. You’ll also want to opt for nature-inspired color schemes and décor. Shades of green, woven textures, and wildlife photography are the perfect way to integrate nature into your interior design. Interested in adding a touch of the great outdoors in your home? Choose one of these gorgeous, custom-made Ken West landscapes.
2. Mixed Metallics
Ten years ago, it was super crucial to match the finishes in your home with one another. In 2018, that expectation is no more! Metallics are showing up not just on hardware or fixtures, but also in design elements like artwork or wall coverings. Look for rose gold, metallic matte black, and satin brass as you move further into 2018 – they’re some of the top trending metallics for the year. Not sure how to mix your metals? Check out this article from realtor.com, “Go for the Gold: 7 Ways to Make Your Home Shine With Metallic Décor,” then stop by Prairiebrooke Arts and pick up this piece from Liz Jardine. It’ll add the perfect amount of metallic to your room, and it looks fabulous with any metal-finish frame.
3. Bold Palettes
Say goodbye to monochromatic schemes and say hello to bold palettes in 2018. Bright reds, deep blues, and warm oranges bring life and energy into your space – and now you can use them all together. Sam Henderson from HGTV.com predicts a shift into saturated and jewel-tone colors like those found in this Wilfred Lang abstract. It makes the perfect statement piece in any room!
4. Rounded Elements
While straight edges are still a must in design, 2018’s trends include soft, organic features. Choose sofas with curved cushions or orb-ish light fixtures to seamlessly add this design element to your home. Consider adding circular throw pillows like these from Urban Outfitters, or with a mesmerizing kinetic art fixture by Ryan Kvande.
5. Ultra Violet
Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2018 is Ultra Violet – a color in a league of its own. This trend is probably the most difficult to incorporate into an existing design, but if you’re starting with a blank canvas, go for it! Pantone has a whole section of their website filled with tips and products for designing with Ultra Violet. If you’re in search of the perfect Ultra Violet focal piece, look no further than Bob Ichter’s back-painted acrylics. They’ve got Ultra Violet paired with every color under the sun. When you purchase a piece of art, you're not just bringing the piece into your home, you're bringing the artist along too! At Prairiebrooke, we're in the art business, but more than that, we're in the story-telling business. It's our pleasure to share the inspiration, vision, and yes, the story, behind each piece of art that leaves through our doors.
It's been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and we would have to agree. The following original pieces are all crafted by local artists, and each one is as unique as the last.
Whether you're toting a Julie Hansen fine art purse at a company holiday party, gifting a Lee Knox watercolor to the Kansas City lover on your Christmas list, or conspiring with family and friends as you "dream by the fire" complete with a Kevin Hobbs landscape upon your mantle - they're the perfect story starters.
In our more than twenty-years of experience, we've found that there's nothing more important than investing in relationships. You wouldn't invite a stranger into your home, why let them onto your walls? Make Prairiebrooke your art resource today, and make a friend in these artists for life.

The selection and presentation of artwork in an office environment offers the opportunity to reflect a business’s values and vision. There are several reasons to consider installing quality fine art in your corporate or business space, and several considerations when deciding which pieces to include in your collection.
First, make sure you have a budget in mind. Original works of art can vary in price based on medium, artist reputation, size and framing. Choosing giclee prints for all or some of your pieces will also have an impact on cost. An experienced corporate art consultant can help you curate a cohesive collection based on your business needs and budget.
Next, consider the styles or subjects that may best reflect your business’ culture and vision. For example, healthcare businesses may opt for nature imagery to calm and soothe patients, while creative businesses may consider bolder abstracts. Installing artwork is an excellent way to perk up your office space, and it sends an instant visual message to employees, clients and visitors.
You should also consider space constraints and daily foot traffic in different parts of your office. High traffic areas may be better suited to pieces framed and protected behind glass, while a hard to fit niche may be a perfect place for a sculpture.
Your corporate art collection can change and grow over time. You may choose to slowly build your collection based on business and space needs. An ever-evolving collection will ensure your office environment stays visually fresh and interesting. Plus, investing in a corporate art collection is a fun way to support the arts and independent working artists.
When you choose artwork for your corporate space, be sure to invest in expert framing to integrate the piece with the surrounding office décor, and to protect your investment.
An experienced corporate art consultant can make the process of choosing art for a business space effortless and efficient. A consultant can help you choose the best pieces to reflect your corporate culture and brand, complement your space, keep your costs within budget and ensure your installation goes smoothly.
